ISBN Science Kelas 7

Semester one of Natural Science in Grade Seven at Islamic Junior High School Al Azhar, based on the Independent Curriculum, will embark students on an integrated and contextual exploration of the natural world. This journey aims to foster a deep understanding of fundamental scientific concepts, cultivate essential scientific process skills, and connect learning to everyday life and Islamic values. The learning environment will be interactive, participatory, and student-centered, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through scientific inquiry.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Conceptual Understanding: Students will grasp foundational concepts in biology, physics, and chemistry relevant to their daily experiences, such as the classification of living organisms, interactions within ecosystems, basic measurements, and the properties and changes of matter.
  • Scientific Process Skills: Students will develop proficiency in observing, formulating questions, planning and conducting simple scientific investigations, collecting and analyzing data, interpreting findings, and communicating their discoveries effectively.
  • Critical and Creative Thinking: Students will enhance their ability to analyze scientific information critically, identify cause-and-effect relationships, and devise creative solutions to science and environment-related problems.
  • Environmental Awareness and Responsibility: Students will cultivate an awareness of the importance of environmental conservation as a trust (Amanah) from Allah SWT and demonstrate responsibility in the wise management of natural resources.
  • Integration of Islamic Values: Learning will connect natural phenomena with relevant verses from the Quran, fostering an appreciation for the greatness of Allah SWT through His creation, and encouraging gratitude and responsibility towards the universe.

Possible Subject Matter and Learning Activities:

  1. Introduction to Natural Science and the Scientific Method:
    • Understanding the nature of Natural Science and its various branches.
    • Grasping the steps of the scientific method through simple examples.
    • Developing scientific attitudes such as curiosity, meticulousness, and honesty.
    • Activities: Discussions on natural phenomena, simple observations, designing and conducting basic experiments following the scientific method.
  2. Classification of Living Things:
    • Understanding the general characteristics of living organisms.
    • Classifying living things based on similarities and differences (e.g., plants, animals, fungi, protists, bacteria).
    • Introduction to the binomial nomenclature system.
    • Appreciating biodiversity as a creation of Allah SWT.
    • Activities: Observing diverse living organisms around the school, creating simple dichotomous keys, developing concept maps of biological classification.
  3. Interactions of Living Things with Their Environment:
    • Understanding the concepts of ecosystems, biotic and abiotic components.
    • Analyzing various types of interactions between living organisms (symbiosis, predation, competition).
    • Understanding energy flow and material cycles within ecosystems.
    • Recognizing the importance of ecological balance and conservation efforts as a human responsibility.
    • Activities: Building simple ecosystem models (e.g., terrariums), discussions on the impact of human activities on ecosystems, constructing food chains and food webs.
  4. Measurement:
    • Understanding the concepts of fundamental and derived quantities along with SI units.
    • Using measuring instruments correctly (e.g., ruler, balance, thermometer).
    • Performing measurements of length, mass, time, and temperature.
    • Applying the concept of measurement in everyday life.
    • Activities: Measuring various objects, converting units, analyzing data from measurements.
  5. Matter and Its Changes:
    • Identifying different types of matter based on their states (solid, liquid, gas).
    • Understanding the properties of matter and their differences.
    • Grasping the concepts of physical and chemical changes with examples.
    • Connecting the concept of changes in matter to natural phenomena and technology.
    • Activities: Observing changes in the state of matter, conducting simple experiments on physical and chemical changes, identifying examples of changes in matter in daily life.

Learning Approach:

Learning will employ a scientific inquiry approach (observing, questioning, experimenting, reasoning, communicating), project-based learning, and contextual teaching. Teachers will act as facilitators, guiding students in conducting scientific investigations and constructing their own understanding. Optimal use will be made of laboratories, the surrounding environment as a learning resource, and interactive learning media. Assessment will be both formative (through observation, active participation, individual and group assignments, lab reports) and summative (through projects, presentations, written tests) to evaluate students’ conceptual understanding and scientific process skills.

Through this integrated and relevant Natural Science learning experience, it is expected that Grade Seven students at Islamic Junior High School Al Azhar will develop a strong foundation in scientific understanding, enhance their critical and creative thinking skills, possess a heightened environmental awareness, and deepen their appreciation for the greatness of Allah SWT through understanding His creation.
